Group rides are organised and we make an attempt to take into consideration riders of all abilities. There are 3 different groups and the aims of each group are outlined below.
We strongly recommend all riders carry spare tubes/repair kits and a pump in case of punctures. Routes are published on the Farnham Road Club Strava page and on a club WhatsApp group including GPX and TCX files. Don’t worry if you do not use Strava or WhatsApp, just turn up at the Meeting point on time.
All 3 groups meet at 08.30 on a Sunday morning at the Farnham Maltings car park Should you wish to discuss your individual situation regarding what group to ride with, please contact Roger Taylor who looks after our Group Rides.Riders who want to learn how to ride in a group at a slower pace. Tea/Coffee stops are important part of the Social Group where there is an opportunity to discuss all things ‘Cycling’.
Distances range between 25 and 50 miles at an average speed of approximately 15 MPH with a reasonable amount of hill climbing. The group has a ‘No-drop’ policy so no rider will be left alone if they are struggling to keep up the pace or if they have a mechanical breakdown including punctures.
Often the Social Group will split into 2 groups to cater for riders that want to ride slower than 15 MPH.
Slightly faster than the Social group at approximately 15.5 to 17 MPH and covering distances of between 50 and 65 miles with a reasonable amount of hill climbing. Riding skills in groups will be developed and fitness levels will be maintained or improved and always the chance to discuss other cycling matters with others, during the tea/coffee stops at one of a number of cafes used by the groups.
The Medium group also has a “No-Drop” policy so you will not be left to fend for yourself. There maybe some friendly competition up climbs but faster riders will always wait for the group at the top.
For those who want to push a little harder and focus on improving group riding skills. Covering distances between 50 and 70 miles at approximate average speeds of 19 MPH. A few competitive climbs and sprints for town signs are always on the cards. Usually a quick cafe stop is planned.
There is not a ‘No-Drop’ policy for the Fast Group so important to carry your own spares and tools and mobile phone strongly recommended just in case.
